Community Engagement Coordinator (full time)

Basics: The Community Engagement Coordinator will office at Animal Aid of Tulsa's headquarters, located at: 6811 E 21st St in Tulsa. The position is full time, working 40-45 hours per week. The typical schedule will require working Saturdays and Sundays, with other work days and exact hours to be discussed and finalized as part of the hiring process. Starting pay will be $17 per hour.

 

Summary: The Community Engagement Coordinator will facilitate efforts to build organizational awareness and community relationships for Animal Aid of Tulsa (AAT). Primary responsibilities will focus on creating and sustaining community activities through a variety of programs and events to connect AAT with the public. This includes: social media management, coordinating adoption events, volunteer management, direct communication with the public, and assisting with animal care. All employees are expected to treat each other, volunteers, fosters, and board members, as well as the general public, with courtesy and compassion.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
 

Organizational Awareness

  • Understand Animal Aid of Tulsa’s Mission and be able to answer questions about what Animal Aid does and its importance in the community.

  • Manage AAT’s social media accounts, using volunteer assistance as appropriate.

  • Assist with website management in partnership with other staff.

  • Make connections with other businesses and organizations in the community to facilitate partnerships.

 

Adoption Event Planning

  • Under the guidance of the Animal Care Coordinator:

  • Facilitate scheduling of adoption events both onsite and at other businesses, organizations, and events in the community.

  • Determine availability of animals and their fosters to participate in adoption events.

  • Schedule volunteers to be at events to ensure adequate personnel to handle animals and interact with the public.

  • As needed, coordinate volunteer transport for animals to and from events.

  • Attend adoption events, engage with the public while there, and help set-up and break-down supplies.

 

Volunteer Management

  • In partnership with volunteer coordinator on the board:

  • Recruit and train new volunteers.

  • Process new volunteer applications.

  • Communicate with new volunteers to determine best fit for their skills and interests within the organization.

  • Facilitate ongoing communication with existing volunteers to share volunteer needs and opportunities.

  • In partnership with the foster coordinator and with guidance from animal care staff:

  • Help publicize foster needs both in general and for specific animals.

  • Onboard new fosters by helping them understand the responsibilities and importance of fostering, and ensuring they complete all necessary paperwork when fostering a new animal.

  • Collect and distribute supplies needed by fosters.

 

Direct Public Communications

  • Monitor and respond to requests for help with animals from the public via phone, social media, and in-person.

  • Facilitate responses to community members requesting general information about AAT and convey specialized information requests to the correct staff member.

 

Assisting with Animal Care

  • Under the guidance of the Animal Care Coordinator:

    • Assist with daily care of on-site animals, as needed.

    • Help with transport of animals to and from appointments, boarding, etc., as needed.

    • Help facilitate transport of new animal intakes including contacting appropriate veterinary providers to schedule care.

 

Other Duties:

  • Work cooperatively with all staff and volunteers to promote the AAT mission.

  • Participate in team meetings as needed.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

Desired Qualifications: The Coordinator will need a combination of skills to excel at the responsibilities of the job including: experience with creative writing, marketing, or journalism; familiarity with social media platforms, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate with members of the community from diverse backgrounds and remain professional in situations that can be stressful. A passion for helping animals is a must! Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in animal welfare, nonprofits, public relations, or similar fields. The Coordinator reports to the Executive Director.
