Animal Care Assistant - Full Job Description

The Animal Care Assistant provides compassionate, high-quality care for rescued sick and injured cats and dogs in the care of Animal Aid of Tulsa (AAT), in accordance with organizational standards and state code. This position will participate in all animal care activities under the guidance of the Animal Care Coordinator including: intake, daily care, medical needs, foster care, and adoption for pets in AAT’s care. You will also help the Animal Care Coordinator with maintaining records and transporting animals.

Requirements and Qualifications

Veterinary technician with 2+ years experience preferred.
Computer proficiency and ability to learn ·
Reliable transportation ·
Strong familiarity with animal care, behavior, and handling ·
Must be able to handle unpleasant odors and noise; may be exposed to bites, scratches, and animal waste ·
Must be able to stand for long periods of times ·
Must be able to regularly lift animals up to 65 lbs. ·
Sound judgment and ability to work independently as needed

Duties and Responsibilities ·

Care for animals on site by feeding/watering/walking ·
Maintain clean facilities ·
Screen foster and adoption applications
Maintain proper records, including vet treatments and adoption contracts ·
Transport animals to/from vet appointments, initial intake, fosters, rescue transfers, and adoption events ·
Maintain and manage adequate stock of supplies ·
Administer vaccines to animals in the organization's care
Report signs of illness, disease, injury to the Animal Care Coordinator ·
Work independently on Animal Care Coordinator’s days off; may require working with other staff and volunteers as needed
