Success Stories

From time to time we like to share success stories that tell of a homeless pet Animal Aid has worked that wound up in a great forever home.

(3/07)

Dear Animal Aid:  My name is Sarah. I am just a big, black dog (like so many that seem to get dumped).  My previous owners decided they didn’t want me any more so they took me way out in the country and dropped me off.  It was really cold every night and most every day.  I was so sad and lonely and scared.  I wandered around for a long time until I found a house where I saw another dog outside near the porch eating dinner.  There was this really nice lady who would put food out on her porch for dogs that didn’t have enough to eat.  I sat at the end of the driveway and when the other dog finished eating I walked very quietly up to the porch to see if anything was left…the kind lady came out and put more food out so that I could eat.  The lady already had 4 other dogs in her back yard.  When we became friends, she told me that she really couldn’t take care of any more dogs, but she said that she worked for this place called Animal Aid and she said that she had told them about me.  The people at Animal Aid took me to a very nice veterinarian.  Dr. Johnson at Southern Hills Clinic gave me a very thorough checkup.  I had to get some shots and then they even spayed me.  I had a nice, save place to stay and heal from my surgery.  Then, one Saturday, I got to go to PetSmart for adoption day!  There were a lot of other dogs and some cats and people everywhere.  I stayed close to my Animal Aid person!  Soon I heard her talking about me to a lady and her husband.  I took one look at them and I could feel a void in their heart.  They told my Animal Aid person about their other dog who had crossed over the Rainbow Bridge not too long ago.  The lady began to cry a little.  I felt my leash being passed to the lady and I knew right then that I had to help them feel better.  The lady and I walked over to where her husband was sitting and I tried to show him that everything would be o.k. in the only way that I could…I leaned up against his leg.  When I looked up at him I think he could tell that I was just what they needed!

Thank you Animal Aid for helping me find my new family!  I have plenty of good food, lots and lots of love and at night I have my very own bed!  I wish all my dog friends could have a family like mine!  Please tell that nice lady that works for you Thank you for everything she did to help save me after I got dumped!

Dear Animal Aid:  My husband, Brian and I recently lost our beloved golden retriever, Kylie Ann and we were absolutely devastated.  Brian has just retired and he was really enjoying her company and was very lonely without her.  Even so, we decided that we would not get another dog because we just couldn’t imagine any dog being as special as Kylie Ann had been.  That is, until…several weeks later, our son and granddaughters were looking for a new puppy and we were with them.  We were told that Animal Aid was at PetSmart on 71st with adoptable pets.  We were going to pick up a new computer at Best Buy and decided to drop in at PetSmart, with No plans to leave with a “baby”.  We both immediately found darling puppies…but we knew we didn’t want to start at the beginning with a puppy, so I asked if there were any older dogs.  I was shown a cute Jack Russell terrier mix that was bouncing around, but he just didn’t appeal to us.  Then I was asked if I’d like to meet “Sarah” a really sweet 2 year old black lab.  I said we really didn’t want a lab, but agreed to meet her.  When she was brought over to me she just melted my heart immediately.  I took her over to my husband who was sitting down and she walked up to him and leaned up against his leg, looking up at him imploringly!  We were just talking to her and looking over the adoption information, trying to make a decision on whether we wanted to try this or not.  Another couple walked up and asked if we had Sarah because they were interested in her.  My husband practically yelled “Sarah is ours!”  So-o-o-o, we have a new “baby” in the house and we couldn’t be more pleased.  She is a darling girl and loves to cuddle.  She has met and loves our granddaughters and everyone who meets her just falls in love with her.  We are very happy that we wandered into PetSmart and got lucky enough to find Sarah…she’s just what we needed!

Sophie was adopted on August 18th, 2006 from Valley Glen. She was only 8 weeks old when we adopted her she only weighed 8lbs. She is now 19 1/2 weeks old and weighs 16lbs.  She is a Jack Russell Terrier Mix .  She lives in a household of 7 people (5kids and 2 adults). She has one dog playmate which is Nike who is a Boxer mix (part boxer, part great dane). She is also lives with 1 bird, 1 iguana and several fish (which she has yet to bother any of them). She is extremely friendly and loves to play all the time.

When Oliver came to Animal Aid several months ago, he had a bad leg injury, probably hit by a car.  He was fixed up and ready for adoption within a few weeks, but didn't have any takers for a while.  Oliver is just a super guy that everyone liked and we couldn't understand why he took so long to be adopted.  We're happy to say that as of October 06, Oliver found a terrific home and appears to really be living the good life.

Oliver, with a little help from his new best friend, wrote Animal Aid and his foster home a nice report recently.  Here's how it went:

I just wanted to thank you for taking such good care of me.  I enjoyed living with you and the other pets.  I really want to thank you for finding me such a nice home and loving parents.  I have a real big yard to play in, and also own my own doggy pool.  Mr. & Mrs. Kolar treat me like a king and I'm not going to tell them.  Mrs. Kolar plays with me a lot and gives me treats.  I've bonded real well with pops.  He gives me lots of extra love.  They both take me on long walks around the park.  The two cats don't seem to like me as of yet, but I'll keep trying to win their love.  Other members of the family think I'm cute and a keeper.  I start dog training classes this Monday.  I'm really excited about going and meeting other dogs.  I'm enclosing some photos of myself.  Again, thanks for all you did, and you'll always be my best friend.

Love bunches,

Oliver (Kolar)
